The Team
Yas
Founder, Physiotherapist, Core Believer
Yas began her career on the front lines — as a paramedic responding to crisis moments. But it was her deep passion for prevention, movement, and human connection that led her to retrain as a physiotherapist in 2014, and ultimately create what is now Swell Life Physio.
A lifelong athlete, Yasmin has competed at national level in track and field, surf lifesaving, and now long distance runner — all of which shaped her belief in the power of strong bodies, resilient minds, and good people around you.
What began as a solo physio gig quickly became something bigger, thanks to the incredible Mid Coast and South Coast community who who showed up, supported, and believed in her vision. With their encouragement, Swell Life was born — a place where people feel seen, heard, and empowered to move differently.
Yasmin is a passionate advocate for holistic care, long-term results, and building strength from the core out. She believes rehab should be as purposeful as performance training, and that movement is medicine — not just for pain, but for life.
She lives by the words:
“All limits are self-imposed.” — Icarus
…and backs herself to live a big, full, heart-driven life — as a business owner, physio, runner, supporter of her blended family and proud mum to her little girl.
Elly
Journey on becoming a Physio:
I developed an interest in Physio when I was 12 and navigating a knee Injury, and seeing just how helpful, knowledgeable and kind my Physiotherapist was inspired me to start researching the career path. I was very fascinated by the profession in how Physiotherapists help their clients to become stronger and manage pain and reach their fitness goals. Then when I was 17 I became involved in the swimming and aquatic therapy industry and that further sparked my interest in health, wellbeing and fitness, which all align within the Physiotherapy scope.
Interest areas: Paediatrics, aged care, women’s health, pelvic pain disorders, chronic pain.
Skills/certifications:
- Bachelor of Physiotherapy Honours at UniSA 2024
- Austswim Swimming instructor license 2019
- Cert 3 in Business administration 2018
Hobbies:
- Pole dancing (especially hanging upside down), swimming, going to the gym, reading and writing, spending time with friends.
Favourite quote: Happiness comes from within so stop worrying about what others think and be yourself!
Swell: I can make someone’s life more swell (otherwise known as ‘very good’) by helping them achieve their fitness or movement goals and to help them get back to what they were doing pre injury or pain flare up
Matt
Physiotherapist, strength and performance focused
Matt’s approach to physiotherapy is built around — helping people move better, get stronger, and stay capable long term. He brings a practical, movement-based approach to rehab, with a strong interest in strength training and real-world performance.
As both a physio and athlete, Matt understands the balance between pushing capacity and managing injury. Having completed half marathons and HYROX, he knows what it takes to build consistency, return from setbacks, and progress training with confidence. That perspective shapes his clinical style — focused on progression, not just symptom relief. He also works with the Plympton Bulldogs Soccer Club with their State League 2 side focusing on elite athlete return to sport and injury prevention programs to keep the team in peak performance.
He particularly enjoys working across a wide range of people, from younger active individuals through to older adults in rehab, where he values the process of rebuilding strength, confidence, and independence through simple, effective exercise.
He has a particular interest in:
- Strength-based rehab
- Lower limb and running-related injuries
- Return to gym and sport
- Active ageing and rehabilitation
- Building long-term resilience
Matt believes rehab should never feel like just “getting back to normal” — it should be about improving capacity and confidence beyond where you started.
Outside the clinic, you’ll find him training, running, or continuing to develop his knowledge in strength and rehabilitation.
What does it mean to help someone “make life swell”?
To Matt, it’s about restoring confidence in movement — whether that’s getting back to sport, training, or simply living day-to-day without hesitation.
Laura
Practice Manager, number Guru and Brains behind the scenes
Laura has a background in finance and administration, and although bookkeeping and organisation is her thing, she is also a big people person. Working with Yas and the team has given her the opportunity to do what she is swell at in an environment where she can support a team to help people be the best they can be.
Outside of Swell, she is a mum of 2 boys who are both at school. During family time they love to get outdoors be it camping, beach walks or nature hikes, and when life isn’t busy juggling 2 boys, her husband and a puppy, she loves to craft and be creative at home.
